Dana Point Chamber of Commerce
Scholarship Opportunities for Dana Hills Seniors

The Dana Point Chamber of Commerce is proud to offer annual scholarship opportunities to outstanding high school seniors who demonstrate a commitment to their education, community, and future career goals.

We invite Dana Hills High School seniors to apply for two different scholarships for the 2025-26 Academic Year:

Michael Killebrew Spirit of Service Scholarship

The Michael Killebrew Spirit of Service Scholarship was established by the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce to honor the legacy of Michael Killebrew, the City’s recently retired City Manager. Throughout his career, Michael exemplified thoughtful leadership, integrity, and a deep commitment to public service. He was a steadfast supporter of local nonprofit organizations and believed strongly in giving back to the community. This scholarship seeks to recognize a Dana Hills High School senior who reflects those same values through meaningful service and a genuine dedication to making a difference.

Award Amount

This scholarship program is made possible in part through the generous support of Dana Point Chamber of Commerce members and the Monarch Beach Sunrise Rotary Club. For the 2025–2026 academic year, two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to deserving students.

Richard Deffenbaugh Memorial Scholarship

Named in honor of Richard Deffenbaugh, a beloved Chamber member, local business owner, and passionate community advocate, this scholarship reflects his enduring legacy of service and support for Dana Point’s youth. Richard’s decades of involvement with the Chamber and local nonprofits exemplified his belief in giving back - and inspiring the next generation to do the same.

The scholarship supports graduating seniors—particularly those attending Dana Hills High School—who plan to pursue further education through a university, community college, or vocational training program. We are especially proud to support students who have:

  • Worked or volunteered in Dana Point
  • Expressed interest in careers in hospitality, tourism, entrepreneurship, or community development
  • A desire to return to Dana Point to live, work, or start a business.

This scholarship is not solely academic—it’s about heart, dedication, and a shared love for our community.

Award Amount
Multiple scholarships are awarded annually. Past recipients have received individual awards averaging between $500-$1,000, funded through generous contributions from Dana Point Chamber members and local businesses.
