Shop Local in Dana Point – We Need Your Help

Together we can build a stronger economy by dining, shopping and staying locally and supporting our Dana Point merchants.

Shop Local is a phrase we’ve all heard before, but one that we’re taking seriously at the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce. So seriously, in fact, that we want to give Shop Local a brand that is unique to our coastal town. We want every resident, business and visitor of Dana Point to constantly be reminded to source their goods locally, from dining, groceries and supplies, to professional services and other wares.

Here’s how we’re asking the community to get involved: the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce is soliciting logo designs that effectively portray Shop Local in Dana Point. From May 22 through June 21, we’ll be accepting logo submissions at ShopDP@danapointchamber.com. All submissions will be showcased on the Dana Point Chamber’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/danapointchamberofcommerce. We’ll invite the community to vote on its favorite designs until June 27, at which time the three logos with the most Facebook “Likes” will be presented to the Dana Point Chamber staff to make the final logo selection. The winning logo will become the brand representation for Dana Point’s very own Shop Local campaign.

The designer of the winning logo will be awarded with recognition and publicity for his or her contribution, as well as a five-course dinner for four, graciously donated by Brio Tuscany Grille.

Your Chamber is encouraging the community to keep dollars here in Dana Point and drive the local economy. Thank you for your support in this endeavor!

City of Dana Point Announces Appointment of

Director of Community Development

After an extensive statewide recruitment, the City of Dana Point is pleased to announce the appointment of Ursula Luna-Reynosa to the position of Director of Community Development. She succeeds Kyle Butterwick who retired as Director of Community Development in November of 2012.  Over seventy applicants throughout California vied for the position.  After an extensive recruitment and interview process, Ms. Luna-Reynosa was the top candidate.  She will assume her duties with the City of Dana Point on April15th.

Ms. Luna-Reynosa comes to Dana Point from the City of Vallejo where she held the position of Economic Development Director.  In Vallejo she managed the planning, building and economic development divisions with an overall budget of $3.2 million. She brings with her a very strong economic development background. During her tenure in Vallejo, she completed an Economic Development and Marketing Strategic Plan to assist the Vallejo City Council and staff in allocating resources and prioritizing efforts for economic development in Vallejo.  Prior to her tenure with the City of Vallejo, she worked for the cities of Tracy and Pittsburg, California in roles of increasing responsibility in the Community and Economic Development field.

Ms. Luna-Reynosa’s appointment also serves as a homecoming.  She grew up in Dana Point and both she and her husband are Dana Hills High School graduates.  As Director of Community Development for the City of Dana Point, Ms. Luna-Reynosa will manage the planning, building, code enforcement and economic development divisions. Her start date at the City of Dana Point is scheduled for April 15, 2013.
